Lambertville, NJ and New Hope, PA are two small towns set across the Delaware river from each other. Both towns have tons of restaurants and shopping and tons of character. It is a great option to visit two towns in one day.

We have been to this area a bunch of times as we have family in town. Lambertville is the quieter of the two towns. In town, you will find many antique stores and art galleries. Slightly outside the center of town is the Golden Nugget Flea which is open on Saturdays and Sundays starting at 6 AM. The flea market is probably your best bet for finding a deal. In town, the People’s Store is a multi level antique shop with a variety of inventory and typically it has very fair prices. Our favorite spot for brunch is Over the Moon. This restaurant is set in a Victorian house. They have a diverse menu. On a nice spring or fall day, it is worth sitting in the garden. When you need an afternoon coffee break after lunch, stop by Union Coffee Shop.

To get to New Hope, you can walk over the bridge that connects the town centers. New Hope has more gift shops than antique stores. There is also a playhouse that puts on local plays. Inside the playhouse, there is a restaurant that has great views of the river. This is a nice stop for brunch. We also enjoyed the local chain, Triumph Brewing Company. They have a varied American menu and house made beers, as you can assume from the name. Another fun brewery in the area is Great Barn. They have a taproom in town with a rear yard that borders a creek. They also have a limited bar food menu.

The river offers trails for walking and biking. It’s also fun to take a look at the houses in town. The houses in Lambertville take Halloween very seriously. Most have extensive decorations. In the summer, the local garden club hosts tours of gardens in the neighborhood.

This area is about 1 hour and 15 minutes from Essex County, New Jersey. It is even closer to Philadelphia. If you are coming from far away, there are a few bed and breakfast places and hotels. These towns are definitely worth a trip!
